If you’ve seen the popular celebrity skincare routines, then you may be questioning, wait, do I need to have an over 10 step skincare routine? The short answer is no. While some people may have over 20 steps in their routine, you don’t really have to copy their routine to improve the look of your skin.

Everyone’s skin is different. Maybe the person that has the 20 step routine needs all those steps because they have a couple of different skin concerns they want to target. So if you also have a couple different skin concerns your routine may get a bit longer.

Creating your routine really just depends on what you want to target.

What do I need in my skincare routine?

While not all skincare routines are the same, some steps are usually a staple in everyone’s routine:

Cleanser

Your skincare routine should start with a cleanser. The type of cleanser is completely based on your own skin type and preference but most cleansers typically help clean off dirt, sweat, oil, and makeup.

For some you might require two cleansers especially if you tend to wear makeup. The first cleanser may be an oil-based one to help wash off stubborn makeup, like waterproof mascara, while the second can be a foaming type cleanser to help make sure you’ve washed away any residue.

A cleanser helps prep the skin before you start applying the rest of your routine. It basically helps make sure any impurities are off the skin to help the rest of your skincare absorb well into the skin.

Moisturizer

Similar to a cleanser, a moisturizer is a pretty basic staple to have in your routine. Regardless of skin type, moisturizers benefit all skin types, you just have to choose the right one for you.

Dry skin types can really benefit from a thicker cream type moisturizer to help hold moisture in the skin while oily skin types are likely better off with lightweight, gel moisturizers.

A good moisturizer can help balance the skin no matter the skin type.

SPF

Luckily, by now most people know that SPF is a crucial step. Apart from helping improve the look of dark spots (by protecting them from further darkening), SPF also has the huge benefit of helping protect the skin from sun damage.

While some people are wary about sunscreen because of factors like white cast, the classic (and unpleasant) sunscreen smell, and pore-clogging effect, there are tons of sunscreens that avoid all of these factors. Chemical sunscreens are pretty well known for blending well into the skin so you aren’t left with a ghostly tint. And, lots of sunscreens now come fragrance-free and non-comedogenic.

So, it’s better to make this a staple in your routine for your skin’s overall benefit.

Can I add to my skincare routine?

Now that you know the basics, you can add onto your routine based on whatever skin concerns you want to target.

Dark Spots

If you tend to get post-blemish marks left behind after a pimple has cleared up, then products like dark spot serums or patches can help target and fade any pesky spots.

Our Dark Spot Brightening Patch is made with Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid, to help improve the look of dark spots without drying up the spot. Plus, you can apply it and leave it on overnight so it can work its magic while you sleep.

Clogged Pores

Clogged pores can be pretty tough to treat without just outright extracting the gunk from pores, which let’s be honest can be kind of painful. But, you can avoid the painful extractions by treating the source of the problem, which in this case is excess oil and dead skin.

When excess oil and dead skin cells get trapped in pores, they can lead to blackheads. So, unless you want to squeeze out blackheads a couple times a week, you have to treat the excess oil and dead skin issue, with things like exfoliants and pore patches.

Our T-Zone Pore Patch is made of absorbent hydrocolloid to help suck up the excess oil sitting on the skin. By sucking up the oil, there’s less of it just sitting on your skin waiting to clog up your pores.

Acne-prone Skin

Similar to clogged pores, pimples pop up due to excess oil, dead skin, and bacteria that can result in whiteheads, cystic pimples, or a number of other types of pimples.

So, while you can treat the underlying causes of acne, by doing things like exfoliating the skin, you can also spot treat existing pimples with blemish patches.

Our collection of blemish patches are made with pimple-targeting ingredients like Salicylic Acid and Tea Tree Oil, to help flatten blemishes within 6 to 8 hours. All you have to do is pop on a patch and let it do its work.

To wrap up…

There is no set routine everyone should follow since not everyone’s skin is the same. Ultimately, as long as you keep the basics in your skincare routine, your routine can be as short or as long as you want it to be.
