A typical acne care routine can include some standard basics like a cleanser, toner, exfoliant, and moisturizer. But, if you are dealing with more than just acne then this routine may look a little more complicated.
And besides that some nights your routine can look different from other nights especially if you like to alternate the use of your exfoliant and a retinoid. Layering your skin care when you have a lengthy routine sometimes gets a bit confusing.
When it comes to adding a new product into your routine you’ll also want to start slow to make sure the new product reacts well with your skin.
How do you layer your skincare routine
In an acne care routine, and in any routine in general, layer your products from lightest formula to heaviest. So, products like serums that are typically light in texture would go before your moisturizing creams.
After cleansing your skin, you can start with your skincare products that have the lightest consistencies. So if you use a toner, toner pads, or liquid exfoliants they’ll be applied right after your cleanser.
Toners that include exfoliating ingredients can be especially helpful in this step since they help clear away any leftover debris like excess oil and dead skin cells. You’ll then have a nice clean base for the next steps in your routine.
Now that your skin is clean clean, you can apply any spot treatments you use in your routine. This could be cream treatments that target existing pimples or hydrocolloid patches that also target active acne. Since spot treatments sometimes have active ingredients you’ll want to apply them straight to clean, dry skin, not layered on top of other products so they can best work their magic.
Following your spot treatment, you can apply your serums. Serums are usually very hydrating and lightweight in nature and may have some nourishing ingredients aimed at specific skin concerns. For example, our Pore Serum is a lightweight, gently exfoliating serum made with Niacinamide, Salicylic Acid, and Glycolic Acid to target clogged pores.
As the thickest textured product in your routine, moisturizer goes last to help lock in hydration from the serums.
Where does the Post-Blemish Corrector fit?
Now that we’ve established how to layer products in your routine, our Post-Blemish Corrector as a spot treatment product would follow your toner. But if you don’t have a toner in your routine you can apply it after your cleanser.
Our new Post-Blemish Corrector has a lightweight consistency and gel-serum type texture so it absorbs quickly and doesn’t feel heavy on the skin. You can pat it into the skin and let it dry before moving on to the next step in your routine.
Made with Ceramide, 3% Niacinamide, and 2% Tranexamic Acid, the Post-Blemish Corrector helps fade the look of post-blemish marks and hydrates the skin to target any dryness around a healed pimple.
You can use the spot corrector right after patching up a blemish (as long as it has healed) to help restore the skin. Or, if you have an existing post-blemish mark (like a red or dark spot) then you can apply the spot corrector on the targeted area.
Lastly, you can apply the Post-Blemish Corrector up to twice a day as needed to help improve the appearance of post-blemish marks. Always remember consistency is key!
