Acne treatment after acne treatment after yet another acne treatment can really wreak some havoc on your skin. While we’re hopefully past using some of the more crazy DIY pimple spot treatments like toothpaste, some acne treatments can still be rough on the skin.

This is especially true for the ones with strong actives like high concentrations of Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid. And while we love these ingredients for acne, it’s possible to go overboard when using them, especially when you're desperate to get rid of a surprise pimple.

Overusing actives or drying the crap out of your pimple can sometimes negatively affect the skin. You could end up with some irritation, redness, and even dryness and flaking.

Cue our new Barrier Support Moisturizer with Ceramides.

Our newest moisturizer is made with barrier-strengthening and skin-nourishing ingredients like Ceramides and Hyaluronic Acid to help the skin recover from unintended damage. So, say you dried out your skin through tons of exfoliants and spot treatments or if your skin is simply going through it, our Barrier Support Moisturizer has got your back (and face).

What is the Barrier Support Moisturizer and who is it for?

So, first off we thought up the Barrier Support Moisturizer to help acne-prone skin types calm some of the nastier effects that can come with treating acne.

While there are tons of great acne-fighting spot treatments out there, we also have to think about the aftercare that comes with using some of these types of products. We’ve also been guilty of sometimes overdoing an exfoliant or facial scrubs (in our youth) that ended up in some flaky, itchy, and irritated skin. So, the Barrier Support Moisturizer is there to help you in these situations (just like it says in the name).

Although we had acne-prone skin types in mind, this moisturizer is great for all skin types. For example, if you’re dealing with dry winter skin, you can apply the moisturizer to help restore hydration to the skin and get rid of that tight, uncomfortable feeling that comes with dry skin plagued by cold winter air.

But, it’s also not so heavy on the skin that it’ll feel like it weighs down more oily or combination skin types. The texture is light enough for oily skin but also nourishing enough for dry skin that needs that extra hit of moisture.

What’s in it?

A compromised skin barrier needs a simple routine, hydration, and repair. Superstar ingredients for a damaged barrier include Ceramides and Hyaluronic Acid. Our Barrier Support Moisturizer includes:

The blend of Ceramides including Ceramide NP, Ceramide NS, and Ceramide EOP each have barrier-strengthening and moisturizing properties, just what a damaged barrier needs. Plus the six types of Hyaluronic Acid help deliver deep and surface level hydration to help plump the look of the skin and ease the discomfort of a vulnerable skin barrier.

Also made with some ultra-soothing botanicals like Aloe Vera and Cica to help calm redness and irritation associated with a damaged skin barrier.

Overall the blend of barrier-boosting and calming ingredients helps tackle all aspects of an irritated barrier from lack of hydration to sensitivity and rough texture. Improving the function of the skin barrier has the benefits of helping the skin best protect from bacteria and other irritants that could trigger breakouts in the first place.

How and when do I use this moisturizer?

If you do find yourself dealing with a barrier that needs some TLC or if you simply need some more hydration in your routine, you can apply the Barrier Support Moisturizer in both your AM and PM routine. Just remember in your AM routine you’ll want to follow the moisturizer with sunscreen.

Your routine with our moisturizer will basically look like this:

But, if you do have an irritated skin barrier, you may want to skip out on a couple of steps while your skin barrier recovers. This means paring down your routine to just the essentials including cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF. It doesn’t mean you have to do this forever but just until your skin looks and feels comfortable enough to continue with your normal routine.
