Skincare routines don’t need to be super complicated. Even if you are dealing with some specific skin concerns, you don’t need to have 20 plus steps. Sometimes having too many steps can end up becoming the problem.
For example, if you have a long routine with more than 10 products and one of these products happens to cause irritation, it can become difficult to pinpoint which one is the culprit. So then you’re left trying to figure out product-by-product which one is not right for your skin.
But this doesn’t mean that you can’t try out new products. It’s just best to slowly introduce new products into your routine. Like using the new product a few times a week and only trying out new products one by one, not all at once.
Tips on building your skincare routine:
Apart from slowly introducing new products to your routine, there are a couple of other tips you can follow to come up with the best routine for your skin.
Choose products for your skin type
Your skin type can really help determine the products that you can try and the ones you should avoid. Oily skin types should avoid heavier products that may contain ingredients like butters and some oils, while dry skin types may actually benefit the most from those types of products.
And if you have really sensitive skin then it's best to stick to products without fragrance or stronger concentrations of some ingredients like Retinol or BHAs.
Be careful with actives
Regardless of skin type, some skincare products with ingredients like exfoliating acids or retinoids can be harsh on the skin if you’re not careful with how you use them. Just because you may not have sensitive skin doesn’t mean that your skin can tolerate absolutely everything.
When dealing with skincare products that contain actives, it can help to patch test the product to make sure it doesn’t trigger an adverse reaction on the skin. And if it doesn’t you can slowly build up your use of the product.
Start simple
If you don’t already have a skincare routine, it actually doesn’t take too much to start one. You can start a skincare routine with just the basics: cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. And for your pm routine just cleanser and moisturizer should be fine.
From there, if you have a certain skin concern you are looking to target, then you can add products that will help. For example, if you deal with acne, you can add in an exfoliant or a retinoid to help reduce breakouts.
Build your skincare routine with Hanhoo
If your skin type is on the oily/combo side, then follow along with our skincare routine to help control shine and target clogged pores:
Step 1: Pore Cleanser
Our new Pore Cleanser with Niacinamide acts as a 2-in-1 daily cleanser and face mask to help remove pore-clogging elements from the surface of the skin.
Apply the cleanser to dry skin and massage in circular motions for at least 30 seconds to help the product foam up, then rinse. But, if you want to use it as a face mask, leave the product on the skin for 3 to 5 minutes, then rinse.
Step 2: Dermafix Toner
Oily skin types can benefit from toners for their function in helping remove excess oil from the skin. Our Dermafix Blemish Toner helps remove any lingering makeup and reduces the look of excess oil on the skin.
Apply to the skin with a cotton round or with your fingers and pat it into the skin.
Step 3: Blemish Patch
Depending on your skin this may not be a constant step in your routine, but you can apply blemish patches as pimples pop up, right before you start applying your serum.
Choose the blemish patch type that’s best for your needs and apply directly over the blemish. If you have a surface pimple we recommend our original Blemish Patch but if you need something a little stronger you can go with our Extra Strength Blemish Patch.
Step 4: Pore Serum
A helpful additional step in your skincare routine, especially for oily and combo skin types, is an exfoliating product. Our Pore Serum with Niacinamide is made with Salicylic Acid to help unclog pores and Niacinamide to help improve the look of enlarged pores.
Apply a couple of drops to the skin and gently pat it in until fully absorbed.
Step 5: Dermafix Moisturizer
Lastly, you can’t forget a moisturizer. If you have oily or combo skin, then a lightweight, water-based moisturizer can help keep the skin hydrated without the unwanted greasy feel. Our Dermafix Blemish Moisturizer helps hydrate the skin and balance oil with Green Tea.
