Not all pimples are created equal. There are all kinds of pimples from small surface spots to deep, inflamed zits. And sometimes the spot treatment you use for one type of pimple may not work for other types.

For example, while small surface pimples can easily be minimized with our original Blemish Patch, it might not be the best for the blind pimples. Blind pimples are known as such because they tend to grow deep in the skin and appear as a reddish bump without visible gunk at the surface.

And blind pimples are the type of pimple you don’t want to try and pop. For one, there is no visible gunk at the surface so you may end up squeezing and squeezing with no payoff. Putting a lot of pressure on the skin can even push the gunk further in the skin triggering more inflammation and discomfort. Then there’s the risk of scarring if you manage to damage the skin.

What can you do about blind pimples?

Typically acne care starts with a good routine in which you target the causes of acne. Aside from your usual cleanser and moisturizer you may opt for a serum or exfoliant style product that specifically targets acne-causing factors like dead skin and excess oil.

But, sometimes even after a good acne care routine you may still end up breaking out due to factors beyond your control like hormones or genetics. So if a blind pimple pops up there are still steps you can take to help minimize the discomfort and size of the pimple.

As usual, stick to a cleanser that works for you. This may include a cleanser with some extra blemish-fighting ingredients like Salicylic Acid. And if you have oily skin, a foaming cleanser may better help remove excess oil (like our Pore Cleanser with Niacinamide).

To help spot treat a blind pimple, we have two options depending on the spot:

Extra Strength Blemish Patch

Our Extra Strength Blemish Patch is infused with Salicylic Acid to help break up the dead skin and sebum trapped deep in the pore. The Hydrocolloid material then helps absorb the gunk from the blind pimple to help minimize the size of the spot. Plus you get the added benefit of covering the spot and protecting it from getting further irritated from outside elements or finger-picking.

So, while our original Blemish Patch has no added ingredients making it best for surface spots, the Extra Strength Blemish Patch has Salicylic Acid that is best for stubborn pimples or pimples that seem to keep popping up in the same spot.

To apply, make sure the skin is clean and dry then place the patch directly over the spot. Leave it on for 6 to 8 hours then remove and discard. If the blind pimple persists then you can apply another patch afterwards.

EraZit Magnesium Microneedle Patch

Our EraZit Magnesium Microneedle Patch also helps with blind pimples but it has the added benefit of Magnesium and Magnesium non-dissolving microneedles. So for the really deep, angry-looking pimples you can apply the EraZit patch to help deliver calming Magnesium straight to the spot.

The non-dissolving microneedles make it so that the spot consistently receives the benefits of Magnesium to help reduce the size and redness of the deep pimple. Similarly to our other patches, the Hydrocolloid material helps capture any gunk from the pimple and protects the spot from external stressors.

Cleanse and dry the area of the targeted pimple then apply the patch and press down for 5 seconds. Leave the patch on the pimple for 6 to 8 hours then remove and discard. Apply another patch as needed.

When to use Extra Strength vs EraZit

The Extra Strength Blemish Patch is best used on blind or recurring pimples. As mentioned above, the Salicylic Acid in the patch helps dissolve trapped gunk to reduce the size of the pimple.

But, for the deep blind pimples that need a little extra help, the EraZit Magnesium Microneedle Patch better targets the deeper pimples with the Magnesium microneedles. So when it seems like not just any pimple patch will do, EraZit has that added punch to help shrink underground pimples.
